All Strings Attached: Daddy Issues
In this sermon Pastor Mike Todd of Transformation Church is focused on our relationship soul, mind, will and emotion.
All romantic relationships don’t start at that place. They all have foundational relationships that teach them how to act when they get to romantic relationships.
A lot of the foundational relationships in our lives are damaged.
Many of us have foundational relationships with our fathers, families, and friendships.
It doesn’t matter if God brings you your dream relationship, if you are broken you will contaminate it.
The only way you can become whole is to go back to the manufacture.
Only God can fix me because only God truly knows me.
Pslams 139:1-14 NLT
“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”
Many times we look at the symptoms of things and never deal with the core issue
How you Love is learned.
Why are you like that?
How you are right now, is not how God wants you to stay.
Upgrade internally
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
What if you were trained wrong?
Who trained you and are you still attached to their training?
How you learn is how you will last.
The most significant relationship you have is the relationship with your dad.
Everybody has daddy issues
The reason everyone has daddy issues is because no ones earthly father is God.
The enemy’s greatest attack is on marriage & fathers. Because if he can take fathers out of the home and break marriages up, little lambs (babies) become open for wolves to attack. The protector is out of the home so now the nurturer has to pick up a sword.
85% of all children who show behavior disorders come from inactive or fatherless households.
71% of all high school dropouts come from inactive or fatherless homes.
75% of adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from inactive or fatherless homes.
Inactive means they can be there but not active.
85% of all youth in prison come from homes with inactive fathers or fatherless households.
In the U.S 43% of all children live without their fathers. Almost half of every child born in the U.S will grow up without their father.
It’s estimated that there are 64.3 million fathers in the nation right now and only 26 million of them come from a married family.
The most important part of building a house is the foundation.
The greatest picture of daddy issues is found in the story of the Prodigal Son: Luke 15
Everyone needs a Father Fix.
God wants to see his people not walk around in the same bondages because of what someone you couldn’t control did to you.
Problem: We all have daddy issues. Solution: We need a Father Fix.
God is offering us a father fix.
How you see God is only seen through the lens of your relationship with your own natural father.
Our parents are just bigger kids who were trained as a child in the way they should go, and when they got older they couldn’t break the string that’s why it’s all strings attached.
Who you are is not who you have to be.
