2016-2020
2016 was my year of discovery. I discovered who I did not want to be, but most importantly I discovered my newfound passion for content creation through my short time as a producer for two different urban podcast in Dallas, Tx. 2016 was also the year my husband and I reconnected.
In July of 2017 my husband Lou and I got married during his Military graduation weekend, before welcoming our son Josiah in November of that year. Shortly after having Josiah, I decided it was time to launch my own blog. I wanted to create something I could proudly stand behind and that represented who I really was as well as who God called me to be. I wanted to create a space that would help others in the ways that I wanted and needed to be helped.
Real Talk With Nikki was officially launched in January of 2018 as an ‘everything” blog covering anything from entertainment to motherhood. In summer 2020 the decision was made to pivot into focusing solely on Faith, Motherhood, and Lifestyle content through a millennial lens.
ABOUT ME
I love life. I love learning, exploring, and I welcome opportunities to experience new things. I’m never too proud to ask questions when needed, or admit that I don’t know a thing. I’m observant. I remember having an encounter with this guy that I’ll never forget; he told me that “the loudest person in the room is usually the dumbest and probably the most insecure”- okay I added the insecure part in because in my experience that is usually the case. I’m an ambivert- I don’t mind interacting with others but I am also perfectly fine sitting in a room and binging all 80 hours of G.O.T and sleeping only when the sleep literally forces itself onto my eyes.
I love Jesus. I won’t pretend to know the ins and outs of Christianity and living life with Jesus but I will tell you that I am trying very, very hard and sometimes it’s difficult. Sometimes, I don’t understand but that’s where wise council and taking the time to read my Bible comes in handy.
This motherhood thing has gotten increasingly more difficult the older Josiah has gotten. But, I love it. I love being his mom, I love watching him grow, and I enjoy figuring out more gentle and effective ways to parent even though I still haven’t quite gotten the hang of it. But, I am trying and reading the books and watching the videos so I’ll get it down soon.
Food is life. I love to eat, I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes; when I was younger my mom (who also loves cooking) would support my cooking interest by taking me to the grocery store to grab the ingredients Food Network told me to get so I could attempt to recreate what I’d seen on tv. I’ve recently started my own cookbook collection and am eager to try and share the things inside them. We are team good food in my house BUT, we are also health conscious so I’m trying to find some balance- say a prayer for me… to Jesus daddy.
I’m into skincare and am starting to accept the fact that all skin has texture. I’m learning not to exfoliate with abrasive and chemical exfoliants everyday because, well nothing is worse than over exfoliated skin and it takes a while to rebound.
I know a lot of stuff, but the older I get the more I realize that there is a ton left to learn. My husband and I are literally learning the differences between light and dark roast coffees, bedding, and a slew of other things we never knew we needed to know. But, being intentional about learning those things helps to make better decisions when purchasing and consuming products.
