Can you describe the best sleep you ever had as a kid?
What about your favorite childhood blanket? Did it soothe you, or did you like it simply because it had your favorite cartoon character on it?
For me, my favorite blanket growing up was my Disney Pochohantas matching comforter set. I want you to think of the most ’90s themed Disney comforter and multiply that thought times ten. I didn’t love this blanket because it soothed me, or made me feel warm and cuddly when I was under it. I liked it because it had my girl Pochahontas on it, and at that time, she was that chick LOL.
Let’s fast forward to me taking on the task of creating a comfortable environment for my three-year-old to rest his head after a long day of climbing, running, and saying “mommy” as many times as the spirit leads him. His room is the most Mickey Mouse room you will ever see for a three-year-old. Mickey Mouse adorns his walls, sheets, bookcase, and even his hamper, however, Mickey Mouse has not been helping him get to sleep any faster lately.
I’ve been finding myself sitting in his room patting his back to sleep (our p.m bonding time semi-routine) way longer than I would like to. To the point that whenever I try to sneak out of his room he lazily opens his eyes and sluggishly whispers “paaatttt my bacccck mommy”. As much as I love our night-time mommy-son time, I don’t want to do it for an hour… my arm starts to hurt.
About two weeks ago right before climbing in bed for the night, I randomly decided to google “weighted blankets for toddlers”, which led me to LunaBlanket.com. After looking through their options I purchased the 10 pound Luna weighted blanket for kids for $50.00.
The blanket took one day to arrive. They immediately got points for that.
The box was a little heavy, which was promising because I didn’t spend $50 on a weighted blanket for it to have no weight to it. I opened the box, took the blanket out of the clear zipped bag holding it and let Josiah take it for a test nap.
He loved it
It should be no surprise then that because he loved, and had the best nap of his life, I loved it too.
It’s been about two weeks now and Josiah doesn’t nap or go to sleep at night without his Luna weighted blanket. When he gets in bed it takes under 5 minutes for him to fall asleep.
One of the things that I love about the blanket is that it has loops on all four corners so that it can be used inside a duvet cover. One of the things I dislike about the blanket is the limited designs for kids, even though from my research Luna offers more designs for kids weighted blankets than anyone else.
Overall, we love the Luna blanket, and I am thinking about purchasing a King blanket for my husband and me so we can sleep as well as Josiah does every night.
I definitely think that when he’s older, he’ll remember this blanket and log it under his favorites.
As always, thanks for reading! I’ll see you in the next blog.
