Formulate Review & Giveaway

My natural hair journey is something I’ve yet to touch on so far on the blog. In 2016 I began transitioning my hair from getting perms to going natural and in 2017 I officially did the Big Chop. My journey thus far has been difficult because honestly I don’t put a lot of time and effort into my hair and learning how to do it and really take care of it. I do however know what my hair needs, and that is moisture: lots and lots of moisture. I’ve tried tons of shampoos and conditioners; as I’m sure many of you have, to find what really works for my hair, and while I’ve had a few hits I have had a lot of misses as well.

While I was given product for this review all opinions are my own

I was contacted by a brand called Formulate who creates unique formulas suited to your specific hair needs. Formulates products are paraben free, sulfate free, dye free, preservative free, and cruelty free. Each formulation is freshly made for your hair needs when you order it.

My hair tends run on the drier side and is extremely thick, and kinky/coily. When choosing products I want something that’s going to give me curl definition, hydration, improve my scalp health, deep condition, and nourish my roots. I took about a ten minute quiz letting the guys at Formulate know what I need and they curated a formula specifically for me; I was able to pick the way my formula smells and see what ingredients would be put in it to get my hair where it needs to be.The first formula didn’t quite do the trick so I let them know and they kindly reformulated it to make it more moisturizing. The second formula was an enormous improvement from the first.

When first contacted by Formulate my initial thoughts were: is this something that can work for My Hair? The answer was a surprising yes. The shampoo lathers the way I need it to so that I can get my hair nice and clean and the conditioner softens my hair making it way easier to detangle. My only complaint is that I wish they had a leave-in conditioner as well.

While I’m still figuring out how my formula meshes with my other hair care products and how to achieve maximum results, I don’t have any real complaints with Formulate and would recommend you guys to give it a try.
