Welcome back to the blog! Last week I introduced you to my four-part series covering “Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight” by Joel Marion. This week I’m picking up with part two of that series, so let’s get into it.

I would classify myself as a night owl. I’ve been this way since I was little, and those same up all night habits have remained true no matter how hard I try to shake them. Not only am I a night owl but I am also a toddler mom, which basically means all of my energy goes to my busy two-year-old and leaves me lacking nutritionally at times. I mean honestly, sometimes without hesitation I choose napping over eating which leads me to eat late at night and then being stressed because I’ve broken the unwritten/unforbidden rule of late night eating. Not only that but I am a chronic hot chip snacker, mainly late at night which I know does nothing to help me meet my goals. Which is why I am excited to be trying Joel Marion’s “Always Eat After 7 PM” program. What’s so great about this diet is that “Always Eat After 7 pm …  lets you eat at night, burn fat at night and end junk food cravings at night. Along the way, it moves you to a healthier, leaner body and more energy—and it does so quickly.”. The fact that I can meet my goals and still eat (even if it’s “too late” to eat) is the best feeling ever.

I’ve never heard of a diet like this before. Most diets are extremely restrictive and recommend not eating late at night, which lead me to wonder what exactly inspired Joel Marion to create this diet and write this book. When asked this question Marion responded:

“After authoring 6 best selling books it was glaringly obvious there were 2 huge misconceptions about dieting that needed to be exposed. The first is that you can't eat late at night or before bed, which science now shows is NOT true. And second, you can't eat large portions that satisfy your natural instinct. This book solves both these problems by providing an evidence-based, enjoyable approach to dieting that can be used by any person to quickly achieve their weight loss goals.”

I honestly couldn’t agree more with his reasoning. Since I was younger I’ve repeatedly heard the phrases “no late-night eating” and “portion control”. After years of trying to follow those rules, it’s become evident that neither of those really work or are long term solutions to living a healthy sustainable life. After coming to this conclusion I began to wonder, why I’ve spent all these years abiding by these unwritten rules, and exactly how long did it take Marion to develop this new approach to healthy living. Marion’s response:

“It actually took several years of researching for me to discover the real science of eating late at night. After a few years of tweaking and refining, I finally came up with a rapid fat loss solution that overcomes all the pitfalls of traditional diets.”

If you’re like me and have tried other traditional diets, I’m sure your next question must be “Well exactly how hard is this diet to follow compared to others?”, Marion’s answer to that is:

“It's not. And that's exactly why I wrote the book. While any diet is never truly easy, it can be more enjoyable and much easier to adhere to when you understand how Always Eat After 7 pm works because it caters to our bodies’ natural instincts.”

I would undoubtedly choose a diet that’s enjoyable over one that is restrictive, boring, and painful to follow.

Marion has taken the time to craft a diet plan, that leans more towards a lifestyle change and feels less like a diet, that isn’t painful to follow, and that produces real lasting results. The first 14 days of the Always Eat After 7 Pm plan, is used to essentially detox your body and retrain your mind. I would say it’s the “hardest” part of the diet and I use to the term hardest very loosely. The Acceleration Phase gradually phases you out of eating breakfast, reduces your caloric intake, and introducing fasting to help burn fat fast and see quick results. According to Marion “Rapid weight loss is … good for trimming belly fat” and the Acceleration Phase can be used if you ever find yourself gaining weight after the program. I’m not sure about you but I love quick weight loss results, it makes me feel like I am achieving something. The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good. If it sounds easy, that’s because it is.

Always Eat After 7 PM seems ideal to me simply because I’ve tried a lot of other things. I like the idea of being able to eat when I would normally eat and still get the results I am desperately seeking. I’ll keep you updated on my thoughts on the program in part three of this series.
