This week we are picking up with part two of Transformation Church’s All Strings Attached sermon series. This series taught by Pastor Mike Todd tugs at my heart strings because right now I am in a season of my life of dismantling any strings or ties that are hindering me from growing. I’m also focused on destroying generational curses because I want my son to live free of dysfunction.

The problem is that the romantic love people are trying to find always starts with other relationships that have been damaged; i.e. familial, friendships, etc.
Relationship problems, aren’t really relationship problems, they are single problems
Only God can fix you!
The way you respond in an argument did not start when you were 38, it started when you were eight years old.
We can not stay tied to things that God wants us free from.
Identification precedes transformation.
If you can not identify what is going on in your life, it can never truly be transformed.
God can’t transform what you won’t point out.

Proverbs 24 3-4 NKJV
3 Through wisdom a house is built,
And by understanding it is established;
4 By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches.

Sex and love do not make your family last

People aren’t staying together not because they don’t have love for each other but because they don’t have wisdom, knowledge, and understanding about what it takes to actually be a family.
If we don’t build our families on the foundation of God then two broken people get together and have kids and their kids do the same, then we are siting here with family ties.
Family is the first institution ever established.
Family is the first institution ever attacked.
As soon as the family was introduced that’s when the enemy came to attack it; Adam was on earth way before Eve, but the enemy didn’t show up until Man and Woman became one.
The enemy wants to pervert and destroy what God calls good.
God needs permission to cut things off of you.

Romans 5:12 NLT
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

Everybody has a dysfunctional family.

Most families in the Bible were severely dysfunctional.
We can not allow family ties to destroy our future even though they have been tied to our past

Genesis 30:43 NLT
43 “As a result, Jacob became very wealthy, with large flocks of sheep and goats, female and male servants, and many camels and donkeys.”
Genesis 31 1-9 NLT
“But Jacob soon learned that Laban’s sons were grumbling about him. “Jacob has robbed our father of everything!” they said. “He has gained all his wealth at our father’s expense.” And Jacob began to notice a change in Laban’s attitude toward him. Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” So Jacob called Rachel and Leah out to the field where he was watching his flock. He said to them, “I have noticed that your father’s attitude toward me has changed. But the God of my father has been with me. You know how hard I have worked for your father, but he has cheated me, changing my wages ten times. But God has not allowed him to do me any harm. For if he said, ‘The speckled animals will be your wages,’ the whole flock began to produce speckled young. And when he changed his mind and said, ‘The striped animals will be your wages,’ then the whole flock produced striped young. In this way, God has taken your father’s animals and given them to me.”

Jacob married into a dysfunctional family; but he married into what he was use to.

Dysfunction attracts Dysfunction.

It doesn’t matter where you are in God right now, God is always transforming us into the version of what he wants us to be.
The Bible tells us the sins of the fathers will visit to the third and fourth generations.
Jacob means trickster; which is why you can’t just name your kids anything, pick a name that prophesies over your child.
What you are dealing with didn’t start with you, there are family ties.
Jacob stole his brothers blessing, and ran. He thought he was running away from a dysfunctional family and ran into another dysfunctional family.
If you don’t allow God to deal with the things you are tied to, you will leave one dysfunction for another.
A dysfunctional family never stops God from functioning.
